HIA Australian Home of the Year

Victoria’s Scalzo Constructions claimed the premier prize at the 2006 Housing Industry Association awards when it was named the winner in the HIACSR Australian Home of the Year category in Brisbane tonight. (Sat May 6) The prestigious award is partnered by CSR.
The company worked on an unusually large suburban block to design a distinctive family home, with strong architectural lines and a range of natureinspired finishes. The living areas and main bedroom are built around a curved swimming pool blending indoor and outdoor living to perfection. Judges said the house is skewed on the block to allow maximum solar access. Curved rock-like walls protect the south-western elevations. “These are contrasted with a series of vertical and horizontal planes of cedar cladding, which echo the forms of the surrounding native trees,” they said. “The use of interesting and innovative materials was one of the keys. “Even so, the overall harmony of the project was never lost. “In all, Scalzo Constructions had to cope with a high level of difficulty in the construction of the project, but came through it well.”
